Highlights of HNC Lagos Meetup, 17th September 2018

Building on the success of the last HNC Lagos event which was held in June 2018, the HNClagos second quarterly meetup was held on the 17th of September 2018. The meetup was themed “Exploring Rapid Prototyping” and was held at the GE Lagos Garage.
The event started around 11:30am with introduction of the community, its goals and purpose to the attendees by the HNC Lagos Chair, Emmanuel Odunlade. He stressed the importance of the community and shared some of the giant strides of Lagos chapter of the Community.
After the introduction, Emmanuel who went on to play the role of a moderator for the rest of the day, invited Demilade of the GE garage, to give a welcome note. Demilade disclosed the continued commitment of the garage to empowering hardware entrepreneurs in the country and emphasized the readiness of the Garage to do more to support the ecosystem.
After the welcome note the first speaker for the day, Ugo Okafor, a rapid prototyping engineer at the GE garage came up and spoke about innovating with rapid prototyping equipment like CNC machines. He stressed the ability of these machines to solve the difficulties surrounding hardware development in Nigeria if the right training programs are made available. He shared some of the parts which has been made at the garage using CNC machines and gave a background to the key techniques during their fabrication.
The second talk followed immediately with Adetunji Adeyemi of Design460 sharing how Design460 uses 3D printers and CNC milling machines for branding and Arts. He showcased different products which they have built/prototyped using 3D printers.
